Information
about |
. . . twelve to fifteen pages in length |
Your
Assessment Report is detailed and thorough, usually about twelve to fifteen pages
in length. The Conclusions and Recommendations will be emailed to you as
soon as your Report is completed, so that you will not have to wait unnecessarily
for the printed Report to arrive.
If your child is diagnosed as being dyslexic, or at risk of dyslexia, the Report will indicate whether they are slightly, moderately or severely affected. It is our experience that, following the recommendations we provide, there is no reason why almost any dyslexic child should not be able to progress into the broad average band of achievement for their age-group.
The important thing is to keep up your child's confidence, and every Report is accompanied by a Certificate of Achievement for your child's drawing, which may be proudly displayed at home!
. . . 'specific learning difficulty' |
Huge
numbers of misunderstandings and inaccuracies surround the whole area of dyslexia
assessment. This the reason why Direct Learning has established a reliable
test that diagnoses whether a child or adult is dyslexic or not.
Even the term 'dyslexia' is mistrusted by a lot
of psychologists because of its over-use by non-specialists to describe any kind
of difficulty or delay affecting children's learning. Psychologists prefer the
term 'specific learning difficulty', which is often used in our Reports.
| . . . a thorough test |
At
Direct Learning, we have established a thorough test which will assess
your child's learning difficulties. The Test will tell you whether your child's
difficulties are due to a 'specific learning difficulty' - dyslexia - or may
be due to some other reason such as delayed learning or Attention Deficit
(ADHD).
An explanation of technical terms used in the report is enclosed with every Report.
Using standardized, reliable tests from two universities, our home test checks through all the different indicators of dyslexia and highlights your child's particular pattern of learning differences. No two children are alike, and there is no single pattern which all dyslexic children match.
With years of experience of assessing and working with children with learning difficulties, our staff are able to give you a clear assessment of the particular challenges your child faces in their learning, and to provide you with strategies on how to help your child deal with them.
. . . techniques for adults |
Adults
who take the Dyslexia Test for Adults may rest assured that each of the items
in the test may be carried out on your own at home, without involving anyone
else. You simply need an ordinary audio tape player/recorder or standard micro-cassette
player (not a Philips dictation system).
The Test has been specially written to take account of people's sensitive feelings about a possible learning difference.
Personal recommendations and techniques are given in your Report which are focused on your work (or study if you are at college). We receive a great deal of helpful feedback from adults, and techniques which will help you to manage your dyslexia - if you are dyslexic - are included in the recommendations. If it turns out that you are not dyslexic, then you will still have recommendations to help you with your difficulties.
